Starting any new business is exciting yet requires plenty of preparation and a clear vision, it is also challenging if you are entering a competitive space with businesses that have been in the game for a long period of time. In order to fit in, as well as stand out, you need to have something different and unique. What is your USP? What will set you apart from a busy crowd? Who are your target audience?

Once you discover the answers to these questions, you can think about your goals for the first month of launching. In order for this to be rewarding, you need a website, suitable marketing materials, a starting base portfolio/product and cliental. Clients seek comfort in knowing they are dealing with a business that is organised, well educated in the field and personable and as result, your name is known. Naturally, if you are building a business based on your passion, this won’t be a problem.

Hitting that launch button is an exciting moment and comes with lots of emotions and even through a pandemic you can get the same buzz. A pandemic does not have to stop you from following your dreams or putting on hold until it passes. Yeah, that launch party may have to wait just a bit longer, but hold on tight, it will be worth it!

Here are some quick tips on how to have a great first month in business, no matter what industry you are in:

The beauty of a good website

This is an obvious one! Make sure your website is easy to read and spellcheck. Ensure links can be accessed correctly and they work well on both desktop and mobile - nobody wants to struggle when navigating. If you are selling a product, provide as much detail as possible including the price. Think of yourself when advertising, if you can’t see things clearly, would you spend time hunting? Finally, make it easy for your client to contact you! Set up a “get in touch” section and make it simple. Do you really need to know everything at this stage? Get on the phone and have a welcoming chat!

Test, test, test

It is so important to understand your audience and what they like, after all they are the ones helping your business succeed! By doing some simple market research you can see what the current trends are and what to avoid. Testing does not have to be expensive and there are many ways you can do this. Having real and honest insight is powerful.

Act fast and respond efficiently

Everybody loves a quick response when it comes to enquiring and you can make such a difference in how timely you react. With certain industries, it is normal to wait for an answer after hours and this has become the new normal. If you can, act fast and not only make your day, make your customers too.

Testimonials are wonderful

We all know how great word of mouth is and how beneficial it is to any company. As a brand-new business, they help significantly with attracting new buyers that already know everything about you! After a successful relationship has been built kindly ask for a review, show it off and enjoy helping your new clients.

Keep in touch

You won’t be able to help everybody and that is something worth remembering. Obtain the contact details as you never know when you could help that client in the future. If you are selling products and it comes back in stock, be sure to notify those that missed out! The same goes for the real estate world, did your buyer miss out on a sale and you are now listing a property that matches their needs perfectly? Go tell them!

Keep track and go at your own pace

The first month could be busy and it’s important to not get ahead of the game. Keep notes on everything that is happening and don’t rush! Enjoy being a proud new business owner and provide the top service you have always wanted to do. Managing too many tasks at the one-time can affect the way you operate and the way you look after your clients.

To sum up, there are many ways you can have a successful first month and the most important being what you put in, is what you will get out. If you are thinking about starting a new business or in the process of launching, why not speak to other companies that are doing similar! Listening to other people’s experiences can bring a lot of learning and be used for what you are working on. Lastly, enjoy and trust the process even during these crazy times.
